Photography

My photography focuses on exploring people in the Arabian Gulf. I find that there is a wide variety of individuals here as it is the crossroads between Europe, Asia and Africa. This creates a dynamic environment that holds a great deal of diversity that is fascinating to capture. Despite the prevailing opinion that the Gulf is uniform in its culture, my work seeks to show the vibrant reality of living here.

A moment with Yasser

Portrait of Yasser Al-Dossari taken in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia on February 3rd, 2023. Yasser is outside the Business School at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. He was relaxed as the atmosphere was casual and it was a natural environment for him to be photographed in.

two peas in a pod

Photo of Reem and Jaenan outside the King Abdelaziz World Cultural Center, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia on February 9, 2023. Reem and Jaenan have been best friends since high school, and this is the first time they have seen each other in person in five years as they went to universities in different countries.

Making ends meet

Ibrahim, a tailor from Pakistan, works in his shop in Khobar, Saudi Arabia on February 12, 2023. Ibrahim is converting a jersey into a gym bag.

Downtown Khobar is full of small dusty shops filled with goods and people. I was walking around this area looking for good things to shoot when I saw Ibrahim's tailor shop. I walked in and talked to Ibrahim and asked him if I could take his photograph while he worked. Ibrahim has been in Saudi Arabia for ten years working and sending money back to his family in Pakistan. He was complaining that business is slow so he has to open the shop on Friday which is equivalent to Sunday in the West

A walk through downtown Khobar

Khobar, Saudi Arabia is the largest city in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province. On the shores of the Arabian Gulf, it is full of sprawling malls, gleaming skyscrapers, and Aramco, the world’s largest and most profitable company. However, nestled near the seafront is a labyrinth of dusty shops and byzantine walkways. It is a fantastic area to observe an old world aesthetic, a throwback to earlier times far from the modern version of Saudi Arabia. These photos are a collection of my favorite photos I have taken while exploring this area.

Majeda

A short clip of Majeda breaking her fast during Ramadan with her fellow converted Filipino Muslims in Khobar, Saudi Arabia. Majeda is a housewife and a devoted Muslim. Every Friday they have a gathering to break their fast on the rooftop where every family cooks a meal and shares with each other.
